The Rise of Influencers within Fashion

According to the Cambridge dictionary the word ‘Influencer’ is someone who affects or changes the way that other people behave, for example through their use of social media. Nowadays being that we are known as the social media era, influencers have become a thing that is very common and is something that has made its way into the fashion industry. From Youtuber’s such as Zoella posting various fashion haul videos advertising different fashion brands, To Instagram influencers who spend most of their time travelling to and from different fashion events, whilst posting updates of different outfits for their fanbases.

Influencers are also a good thing for fashion brands because they are able to expand their fanbase by paying influencers to wear their brand or promote it. However, this can be a negative because this can result in Fashionistas no longer relying on the latest issue of Vogue to tell them what’s hot this season, it more about social media and what influencers are promoting. Personally, I feel that influencers are a positive things for Fashion, because it opens another lane for younger designers to go into whilst earning a healthy salary. as well opening another line of direct communication with these major fashion brands.
